Wow. Kids looking to hook up with adults at their schools are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. First it was teachers and coaches, then it was administrators and teachers aides. We’ve even heard of a few cases of janitors.
But a hall monitor?
Not that Tajreed Rich, 41, is necessarily a bad person . . . other than the fact that he admitted to police that he had sex–twice–with an underage girl from the Minneapolis school where he worked as a “security monitor.” And didn’t use a condom either time. But let’s back up a bit.
Rich worked at Robbinsdale Cooper High School in a variety of positions over the years, including a teacher’s aide, youth coordinator, parent liaison, and an assistant cheerleading coach. Most recently though, he’s worked as a hall monitor, allegedly keeping the halls of RCHS safe. Which is where he met the girl.
According to police, the girl’s father came home early, heard some strange noises and walked into her bedroom to find Rich and his child naked. (Our guess is some words were exchanged, but the police report doesn’t say.) On the plus side, dad did recognize Rich from school, called police and had him arrested.
Rich admitted to the cops that he’s had sex with the girl he described as “vulnerable” twice, once at his home and once at hers. He also admitted to cops that he knew it was inappropriate for him to have relations with the girl, given his powerful role at school as a hall monitor. I mean, who can resist a man in uniform . . . or just wearing a name plate that says “Hall Monitor?”
Rich now faces third-degree criminal sexual conduct and, if convicted, faces up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine
