There are no words to summarize the madness that often makes its way onto Japanese TV. This time, in honor of an upcoming horror-themed attraction, the indoor amusement park Joypolis began running a commercial of downright curious content. It seems that the long-haired horror icon Sadako from the movie Ring has crawled out of her lonely well and taken up residence in this fun-filled haunt. Her mission: to scare you into making a love connection.
Tokyo Joypolis is an indoor theme park on the manmade island of Odaiba. Most of the attractions are in the form of themed walkthroughs or virtual simulators. The newest addition to their long list of thrill inducers is a horror-based walkthrough based off of characters from Ring, the original Japanese novel turned film. Even those who haven’t seen the movie and its spin-offs will surely recognize the freakish girl with long black hair shuffling about. Her name is Sadako, but don’t be too scared. She’s not here to kill you, she just wants to play matchmaker.
The attraction, “Sadako 3D 2: Sadako’s Child” is basically a Ring-themed haunted house made to promote the movie Sadako 3D 2, scheduled for nation-wide theater release on August 20. Visitors to the attraction will wander the dark and twisted hallways, where they will almost certainly encounter Sadako, reaching out to grab them and, more importantly, inspiring them to grab each other.
This haunted attraction is being marketed as the perfect date spot. Because what better excuse is there to cling to someone than having the life scared out of you? That way you get two types of thrills! Although, I wonder if Joypolis couldn’t have picked some better imagery for their TV promotions. To see Sadako crawl between a pair of frightened blobular mascot characters conjoined at the crotch doesn’t really instill me with sexy time feelings…
Maybe it’s a Japanese thing?
