Desirae Macias, 7, was left brain-dead after a gunman opened fire on her family and shot the young girl in the head.
Three suspects followed the family after an altercation at a gas station in Palmdale, California. Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies say the boyfriend of Desirae’s mother got into a fight with three men at the gas station. They taunted the boyfriend while inside a convenient store, as he tried his best to avoid them because he knew his girlfriend and her kids were in the car.
The boyfriend was said to have sprayed mace into one of their faces before walking away from the fight.
The three men were told that Desirae and her younger sibling were in the car, but still followed the family for miles before opening fire.
Desirae was shot near her home, where she was airlifted to the hospital.
An anonymous witness identified the car as a black pickup truck. ”You just heard… the gunshots. I thought I heard the mom down the street saying, ‘They shot my baby, my baby’, just screaming for help,” witness says.
The seven-year-old is currently on life support machines, but will not survive. Relatives say that these life machines are the only thing keeping her alive.
Desirae’s family is waiting for the grandmother to arrive before taking her off of life support.
Sherriff’s deputies have taken three men into custody, none of whom have been identified. The gun used in the shooting also has been recovered.
