A 38-year-old Ypsilanti Township man had an open bottle of whiskey in the passenger seat of his vehicle when he was pulled over in Pittsfield Township Wednesday.
The man drove through the intersection with the high beams of his headlights turned on, Schick said. A Pittsfield Township police officer conducted a traffic stop.
The officer saw the man had an open bottle of Canadian Mist on the front passenger seat and there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.
The man failed standard field sobriety and chemical tests and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Police said the man met the standards for the so-called Michigan super-drunk law.
The super-drunk law requires an individual to have a blood alcohol content above .17 percent in order to face stiffer penalties in court.
The man’s vehicle was impounded and the case was sent to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
