Clik here to view.Human behavior never ceases to amaze me,” Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager told 11Alive News on Monday.
Even after 22 years in office, Yeager said he was still disgusted by the actions of 36-year-old James Robert Findley of Pine Mountain, who now sits in his jail.
Findley was at a Five Below store in Newnan Sunday afternoon when he allegedly put his cell phone underneath the dress of a woman who was shopping with a young girl.
According to the police report, the woman’s boyfriend saw what was happening, hit Findley in the head and kicked him twice.
He then held him until a deputy arrived.
“He went to the rescue of his girlfriend…and he did the right thing,” Sheriff Yeager said.
The sheriff said Findley confessed, calling himself, “an idiot.”
“He admitted to our officer, he said…he was doing something stupid,” Yeager added.
Some customers of the store told 11Alive they believe Findley deserved the beating.
“I think it’s good; they need to send him away,” said DeLois Bilbrey.
“I probably would have beat him a little more before the police got there,” said Andrew Caldwell.
So far, Findley only faces one felony count of eavesdropping and illegal surveillance, which carries a penalty of from one to five years and up to a $10,000 fine.
But Sheriff Yeager told 11Alive News they’re seeking a warrant to search Findley’s phone for other potential victims.
He also said since both Findley and the victim had a young child with them during the incident, there could be additional charges.
